The Michel Tremblay Collection
M. Tremblay is a tugboat enthusiast from Gaspé, QC. While too young to have worked on the Gaspé log drives, he remembers seeing the operations and subsequent demolition of the wharves and tug slips. Gaspé was a frequent fuel stop and shelter for various McKiel Glen class tugs, and the ex-CCG Ville Marie and Montmagny, the two biggest Russel ships. Michel says Moineau L. and Cap Petit Méchins were recently cut up for scrap at the Verrault shipyard. Cecile R. (ex-Belle Bay) was a floating laboratory for govt. inspection and testing of remote Newfoundland fish processing plants. After being sold by the Crown, the vessel sat at Caraquet, NB for a long time. Last year (2006) the hull was patched and it was brought across the Baie des Chaleurs and hauled out at Newport, QC, its fate undecided.
