This photograph shows the Wendigokan tug boat salvaging the wreckage of Al Cheesman's plane from Lake Superior after he crashed on 8 July 1939. Cheeseman was a bush pilot and test pilot for Boeing Aviation Co. in Vancouver. He was known as Port Arthur's "Flying Alderman" and internationally known as a pilot who accompanied Sir Hubert Wilkins to the South Pole in 1929-1930.
My grandfather knew the guy that operated it if it's the same one I'm thinking of. I believe Styffes had it for a while. It was built in 1937 by Russel brothers then they still had the factory in Fort Frances.
