Richard Lamoreaux posted this photo to the Historic Northern Ontario facebook group in April 2017. Thunder Bay. This photograph shows the Wendigokan tug boat salvaging the wreckage of Al Cheesman's plane from Lake Superior after he crashed on 8 July 1939. Cheeseman was a bush pilot and test pilot for Boeing Aviation Co. in Vancouver. He was known as Port Arthur's "Flying Alderman" and internationally known as a pilot who accompanied Sir Hubert Wilkins to the South Pole in 1929-1930.

My grandfather knew the guy that operated it if it's the same one I'm thinking of. I believe Styffes had it for a while. It was built in 1937 by Russel brothers then they still had the factory in Fort Frances.

Mike comments (Mar. 2018): "...probably in the 1960's. St. Sylvester's Church would have been just left." Ginny Flett adds: "Lake Helen storage - the Minikan in the forefront and the Wendigokan in the background. Looks like they're getting ready to spill this raft."
