Jay's Liner / Ubique III

Ex- Jay's Liner. Canadian List of Shipping 1970: Steel tug Ubique III [C.171934] registered at Hamilton. Built at Owen Sound in 1939. 35'1 x 10’6 x 4’8; 9 g.t.; 8 n.t.; 125 hp. Formerly Jay's Liner & also as Wilema and R.J. Foote. Canadian List of Ships 1997: Bermingham Construction Co. Ltd., Hamilton, Ontario. Transport Canada List 2003: Owned by Bermingham Construction Co. Ltd., Hamilton, Ontario. GAO Notes: Photo in Ivan Brookes Scrapbook with truck on her stern. Patrick Bermingham informed me on February 25, 2003 that Ubique III was on the bottom of Lake Ontario somewhere between Hamilton and Toronto, and had been there for about 20 years. The name means “All Present” and is the slogan of the Canadian Armed Forces Engineers, which Spike Bermingham, the company's founder, belonged to. RBF Notes: A group of divers have discovered the Ubique III on July 28, 2005 in about 130’ of water off Oakville, ON. She is reported to be upside down under a crane boom. Sold U.S. in 1942 and renamed b] WILEMA 1942 - 1946. Returned to Canadian registry after the war. Registered as c] JAY' S LINER 1946-1948 (Owned by Bermingham Construction Ltd., Hamilton, Ontario) and d] UBIQUE III 1948 - 1982. Sank in Lake Ontario while pushing a barge. Wreck discovered in 2005 in 150 feet of water between Bronte and Hamilton. The tug is upside down on the bottom and is partially underneath the barge it was pushing.
