T. H. P. 9 - Steel motor patrol boat [C.189874] built by Russel Bros. Ltd. and launched as THP 9 for the Toronto Harbor Police in 1958. Later renamed M.T.P. 9. Nicknamed �Big Nine�. Sold from Metro fleet c. 1990. Said to be in Big Tub Harbour 1995.Canadian List of Ships 1994 - 95 lists her owner as Omer Joseph St. Pierre, 21 St. Anne Rd, Sudbury, Ontario. Toronto ON, 1991. the only photo I have of M.T.P. No.9 running along the stern of the Royal Yacht Brittania. Also seen are William Lyon Mackenzie and Duchess V, which along with Colinette, assisted the ships into the dock. Photo by Capt. David Erickson.
John Hoeldke (member of the Toronto Harbour Police) comments (April 3, 2020): "MTP stands for Metro Toronto Police. With all due respect we never referred to #9 as the big 9, also your photo shows #11 not # 9. THP #11 was built from Russel Brothers plans, not constructed by Russel. On the subject of how they handled, they could easily handle 4 foot waves at full throttle. Consistent with semi displacement hulls they rode with their bows high out of the water, resulting in marginal forward visibility."
