Oct. 22, 2007: GAO notes: The tugs Le Taureau and the Manistique were on deck during the tow of the McNally Olympic which was lost in heavy seas near the northeast tip of Labrador. The Le Taureau is wedged between the rocks near the Olympic. The Manistique is considered sunk. Both are considered total losses.
An example of one of the many types of boats constructed by the Steelcraft division of Russel-Hipwell Engines Ltd. is this dredge tender, photographed in northern Ontario waters. Forty feet long and 12 feet in the beam, it is powered by a 175 h.p. Cummins diesel. Equipped with an Amsterdam plow, it can crack 12 inches of blue ice. Russel-Hipwell also build tugs, work boats, launches, scows, barges and ferries. |

GAO notes: Burlington, ON June 21, 2002. Manistique and Derrick No. 1. Manistique in better days. I was out on the Empire Sandy on Lake Ontario, and we were several miles away, but it was dead calm, so we pulled off a lifeboat drill and went over to where McNally Construction was laying water intake pipe, just to get these shots.

The tug Manistique passes Mariatown on June 26, 2007 on the deck of barge Pitts No. 1. This tug was on board the barge McNally Olympic with another tug, Le Taureau, when the barge went ashore on the coast of Labrador in heavy seas. Both tugs are total wrecks.
