Canadian List of Shipping 1956: Mae Mac No. 2 [C.179145] registered at Port Arthur; built at Owen Sound in 1948. 43'1 x 12' x 4' 9; 19 g.t.; 14 n.t.; 138 hp. Owned by the Great Lakes Pulp and Paper Co. Ltd., Fort William. Named after Mae McParland, who worked at GLP also. Other boats owned by GLP and mostly named after employees were Shirley B, Piet V, Nonwatin, Leslie M, Jean May, Jean E, Jarvis, Ian B, Herb R, Gerry B, Gail M, Elizabeth G. L. P., Dora Margaret, Cynthia C, Brent G, and Bert S.

Alligator Mae Mac II - Built 1948 by Russel Brothers, Owen Sound, of steel construction. 46 feet long, 12 foot beam with 135 h.p. Cummings engine, 3 drum winch carrying 1 mile of �� cable. Accommodation for crew of 4 men.

Was used mostly at the mouth of Black Sturgeon River delivering wood to the tug Chris M. and helping to make up rafts for towing to Port Arthur. [See Empire Sandy clipping file for photocopied pic]. RBF Notes: Was based at the Government Dock in Hurkett, ON. Captained by Ray Helget of Fort William, ON from mid 1950�s until sold. Previous Captain Walter Bates. Sold 1965 and apparently trucked to Kenora, ON. Spotted in the late 1970�s at Kenora, ON by Ray Helget. She was running under a different name. (info Stephanie Helget). Rob Farrow comments (July 2018): "Tried to find the Mae Mac 2, rumour was she went to the Kenora area but questions and research turned up nothing there...maybe pulled up on one of the many islands there!"

RBF notes: I found the attached photo in the June 1949 issue of the Great Laker Newsletter which was put out by the Great Lakes Paper Mill. All of their material is now in the Thunder Bay Museum.
