The Little Tug That Can The little harbour tug, Indian Lake, keeps the ice broken up around the shipping in Corner Brook harbour. The Canadian Coast Guard ice breakers have broken the channels many times this year, but this little tug certainly does her part. That contraption you see on her bow, which protects the tug and helps break the ice, is removed in other seasons. Guess her name is a little politically incorrect, though. Certainly Barb Weston in August:Osage County would think so. :-). Those are the Blomidon Mountains in the background. Some people call them the Blow-Me-Down Mountains.

Nov. 23, 2018. Dave Murphy from From Pasadena, NL sends over some photos of his Indian Lake model. Dave comments: I have being building models for 40 years I just built this Russel Brothers tug Indian Lake. It took two months to build this. The tug is still operating for Corner Brook pulp and paper and in mint shape, still a beautiful old tug. The model is for sale. If you have any questions you can contact me at murphydavid10@gmail.com.

Here are some reference photos of the deck that Dave used in building his model. Taken c. 2017.

Photos of the Amsterdam plow made for Indian Lake by Russel Brothers. Taken c. 2017 by David Murphy. Dave comments (Nov. 28, 2018): "... this is plow for the Indian Lake. This tug is just used for ice breaking now. They have this filled with Jelco (like antifreeze) - a lot of weight upfront is what breaks the ice. They bolt this to the tug. This is why the stem is shaped to fit the plow. When they put the plow on the tug they put a heavy counter-weight on the back of tug deck keep the plow breaking the ice better."
