Peter Everett notes: (Dec. 3, 2003) On March 7th, 2003, I purchased a vessel hull #687, name Compass Rose VI, official number 177557, from a numbered company in Midland, Ontario. The company had purchased the vessel from a doctor in the Honey Harbour area who was going to fix the vessel up, but sold the vessel first. The doctor had purchased the vessel from John E. Crowle of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. John Crowle purchased the vessel from Howard Avery Construction of Sault Ste. Marie. When Avery Construction owned the vessel, it was named the Coulonge, but the name got changed to to the Compass Rose VI after John Crowle bought the vessel.
(March 31, 2007) After much work I got her home and cut the cabin off. I rebuilt the decks and widened the gunnels to 18'. We installed new fuel tanks, holding rails, a new engine from Midland, Ont., transmission from MonctonNB, shaft and propeller from Lunenburg Foundry & Engineering in Lunenburg, NS. Steering from Pictou, NS. I welded a new cabin and wheelhouse, insulated it and the decks. Wainscotted the interior. All new lighting is 110 volt fluorescent with a 1000 Watt inverter. Fridge/freezer combo, 3 burner stove, hot water tank. All new electronics except for a 12 mile Furno radar (late 70's). 2 berths below, electric head & sink. There is a full galley aft of the wheelhouse."

Rick Stout comments (Apr. 3 2017)
Peter bought it from Kei Stewe, and Kei launched it as he has the hydraulic trailer as well as owning the Maron II. Kei put the cabin on it off the Debbie Cin when it was converted to Grampa's Dream. Peter took it off and put that big high cabin on it. Peter sold it to a company in Kingston that was going to notch it into a barge for the power.
When the Debbie Cin sank at Hope Island, Gord Martin who owned her had her raised. I think Kei may have helped with the salvage. Gord lengthened and widened her and changed the deck houses to what she is now. Kei bought the Compass Rose and put the Debbie Cin cabin on it and then sold it to Peter. As you know, The Debbie Cin became Grandpas Dream as a yacht before Gord sold it and the Margro barge to Groves in which Grandpas Dream became the EJ Groves. We lifted it at Wye Heritage two years ago for winter work.

Pat English comments: The Sawyer is owned by Kehoe Marine and is out of a marina located in Champagne Bay in the 1000 Islands. Kehoe is the major player in marine construction on the Canadian side of the 1000 Islands. They built the breakwall and its docks at the Gananoque marina as well as several others. Most work on cottages and houses on islands is done by Kehoe.
